GURHAN Jewelry Show, and One-Man Show Featuring the Sculpture of George Lundeen During Fall Gallery Walk

Sorrel Sky Gallery - GURHAN Jewelry Show, and One-Man Show Featuring the Works of George Lundeen

DURANGO, CO: June 15, 2017; Sorrel Sky Gallery hosting two shows during September 2017. September 2 spotlights the jewelry designs of GURHAN with a one-day Jewelry Show from 12:00 noon-6:00 pm. September 15 features the sculptures of George Lundeen, with an opening reception from 5:00-7:00pm. This show continues throughout the month of September. Both events take place at Sorrel Sky Gallery’s downtown location at 828 Main Ave.

GURHAN’s varied life provides the backdrop against which he designs, and each new experience fuels his inspiration for new creations. While studying watchmaking in Switzerland, he encountered a sheet of pure gold. Struck by its warmth and energy, he began examining the work of early goldsmiths, educating himself in their techniques and secrets. His passion soon became perpetuating their legacy, and preserving their craft through his own unique style, perspective and vision. In his own words, “I have always enjoyed working with the tools that were used by ancient artisans...It’s hard to believe that these very same techniques are being used today…the “music” of my hammering often lasts well into the evening.” Now sold and collected worldwide, his pieces are worn by celebrities and collectors alike.

Lundeen considers himself a western artist whose figurative bronze sculptures transcends time and culture. His often life-size figures, masterfully designed and crafted, draw the viewer in through their all-embracing expressions of human emotion. Lundeen has traveled the world gathering images of people that he then skillfully transforms in his Loveland, Colorado studio. He finds it personally satisfying when people from different walks of life find a common bond with his work. “I am attracted to the human figure, and it will be enough to keep me busy for the rest of my life.” Lundeen’s sculptures have been commissioned for, and are held in, private collections as well as universities, municipalities, foundations and corporations throughout the world.

Shanan Campbell Wells, owner of Sorrel Sky Gallery, sees the works of these two distinctive artists as both innovative and historical in nature. “GURHAN is so inspired by the artistry and skill of early jewelers, and yet he is constantly incorporating new ideas in his handcrafted designs. With George, he has the extraordinary ability to capture the breadth of human emotion in his works; from times long past, to present day.”
