Jim Bagley is known for his evocation of the dramatic interactions between land and sky. When viewing his paintings it is hard not to feel the sense of grandeur of the landscape, the sense of calm on a high country lake, or the eerie light of a fall hunting camp. His lifestyle and love for all things outdoors takes him to places many others will never experience aside a Planet Earth episode or National Geographic documentary.

Growing up in Oregon, Bagley was no stranger to the outdoors, developing an early appreciation for nature through frequent hunting and fishing trips with his father. He saw a future for himself in the fish and game industry, but quickly realized it’s bureaucratic nature and chose a career in graphic design and advertising.

Over the years, Bagley continued to hone his skills as a painter while working in commercial art. In 1985 the Bagleys decided to make New Mexico their home, and Jim began cutting back on commercial art until becoming a full time artist.
