DURANGO, CO: May 19, 2016; This one-man show during First Thursday Art Walk on Thursday, August 4, 2016 features nationally known western figurative bronze sculptor George Lundeen at Sorrel Sky Gallery at 828 Main Ave from 5:00-7:00 pm. The evening will spotlight Lundeen’s remarkable ability to capture the full-range of human emotions, regardless of age or moment in time. It will also provide an opportunity to speak with Lundeen about his influences and current work.
George Lundeen considers himself a western artist whose figurative bronze sculptures transcends time and culture. His often life-size figures, masterfully designed and crafted, draw the viewer in through their all-embracing expressions of human emotion. Lundeen has traveled the world gathering images of people that he then skillfully transforms in his Loveland, Colorado studio. He finds it personally satisfying when people from different walks of life find a common bond with his work. “I am attracted to the human figure, and it will be enough to keep me busy for the rest of my life.”
Lundeen’s sculptures have been commissioned for, and are held in, private collections as well as universities, municipalities, foundations and corporations throughout the world. He is a member of and has received numerous awards from the National Sculpture Society and Allied Artists of America. Lundeen has achieved the status of full Academician of the National Academy of Design in New York. This is the highest professional recognition bestowed on visual arts in America.
Owner Shanan Campbell Wells, has long been honored with representing Lundeen’s work. “George’s ability to take a single moment of day-to-day life, turn it into a poignant, moving experience for us each to individually interpret, and to appear to do it so effortlessly and with such grace of spirit, says so much about what is at the heart of his work.”
