Where does your mind take you when you hear "The West"? Do you think of the mythical West that has deep roots in the American imagination? Are your thoughts fueled by Mark Twain's colorful accounts of gold strikes or the popular frontier stories of Louis L'Amuor? Do you see Hollywood stars of times past, galloping across the screen?
Or maybe you think of the historic West? Do you imagine the lives of those pushing the edge of their known civilization? Are you drawn to the lives of early explorers and settlers as they traveled the Oregon Trail, crossing the plains and mountain ranges? Or ranchers and cowboys making a new life far from family and friends? Do you think of Native American tribes, following enormous herds of buffalo?
The myth and history of the West continues to influence lives and fire imaginations

Based on our personal experiences, travels, and interests, we each have a different view, perspective, idea of what "The West" means to us. Many of us wish we could turn those thoughts into something tangible, something that captures our inner vision. Something that says to all who see it, "This Is My West"!
Artists Maura Allen and Jim Rey are able to do just that. Each approaches their creative processes with a distinctive style and method. Their paintings clearly state what the West means to them, conveying visually how its future and its history continues to influence lives and fire imaginations. Imagery that says, "This is The West"!We hope you can join us for an artist reception from 5:00-7:30 pm on June 1, 2018, at the gallery’s Santa Fe, New Mexico location, in the heart of downtown at 125 W Palace Ave. "This is The West" will continue throughout the month of June.
