Oil, 24" x 30" by Tricia Higgins Hurt
Painted in August 1993
A second generation niece of Taos painter Victor Higgins, Tricia Hurt has become a plein-air landscape painter in modernist style of the same area as well as other parts of the country including the East Coast and the South.
She was raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, and as a child was encouraged by her artist uncle who bought her first box of crayons for her. He also told her to throw away the coloring book and make her own art. She graduated from the University of Virginia where she was one of the first women to be admitted, but there were no art studies, so she enrolled in art through the teachers college.
