Hand-painted raku-fired stoneware, 9" x 6.75"
"Raku is a very labor-intensive firing technique which was developed in Asia around 1500 years ago. The small, outdoor kiln is fueled with natural gas. I would only fire 3 pieces at a time. The black on the bottom and in some of the small crackles in the vase is carbon staining, which occurred after I removed the glowing-hot piece from the kiln with tongs and placed it into a can with sawdust."
