Recognizing the significance and enduring power of those that “have come before” him, Mateo sees the works of others as signposts, each offering him a piece of information to be added to his own journey. With elements of the surreal, the “in-between space,” he translates a landscape or scene onto a canvas. He gives the viewer the opportunity to interact with the inner energy of each piece and create a personal interpretation of what they see and experience.
