As the cowgirl in this vintage photo demonstrates, a good pair of hair-on angora sheepskin chaps were a fashion statement, as well as an essential, especially in the north country. A Winchester saddle carbine, a bedroll, saddle, a hat, and a horse were basics, but those “woolies” could express your individuality – like this tooled basket-weave patterned waist, with straight or curly black, white, brown or spotted hair – surely proved you were a wrangler for all seasons.
