Chiefs and warriors decorated their headpieces with the feathers and fur of animals they strove to imitate. The courageous, fearless and even wily spirit of the badger, the wolverine, the buffalo, and birds of prey all spoke to the chief or warrior’s way of thinking as he oversaw the people in his camp or prepared his mind and body for a campaign against rival tribes.
