Eagle War Bonnet
Original Painting ~ Acrylic on Canvas. Frame is a gold shadow box that adds 1.5" to each side.
This portrait of a War Bonnet opens a window into the creation of headpiece and the man who could wear it. Warriors decorated their headpieces with the feathers and fur of animals they strove to imitate. The courageous, fearless and even wily spirit of the badger, the wolverine, the buffalo, and birds of prey all spoke to the warrior’s way of thinking as he prepared his mind and body for a campaign against rival tribes. However, a warrior could not wear feathers without having proved himself in battle, with several witnesses to attest to his action.
