The TiPi played a central role in the lives of the Plains Indian. Families gathered to work together, eat together, celebrate together, and pass on stories and history. Each tribal group has its own customs of TiPi construction and embellishment. These differences can be subtle or obvious. Perhaps it’s the number of poles used and their placement when assembled, or the elaborate decorations or lack thereof.
