"Kiva"
Images of where I grew up in Nambe, New Mexico
We lived on what is called the High Road to Taos. The terrain is unique, because of the
many cliffs along the arroyos known as The Barrancas and the majestic
Sangre De Cristo mountains to the East.
Growing up in Nambe, New Mexico, we were all aware of the influence
the natural landscape had upon our lives.
This vase includes designs given to me by the natural landscape.
At the top are depictions of the Kiva Step design inspired by the Great Kiva
at Nambe Pueblo. Within the Kiva Step design is the Great Thunderbird.
Turquoise brings prestige, wealth and healing.
The band circling the vase represents the randomness of nature.
Kiva Steps are also at the lower part of the piece separated by storm clouds.

Kiva steps are inspired by the
"Great Kiva" at Nambe Pueblo,
