In the year 1552, there was a terrible drought
in New Mexico and Colorado. Hundreds of
Native Americans came south looking for water
and a new place to live.
They settled in what is today Nambe Pueblo,
north of Santa Fe. As the drought continued,
the people prayed for rain.
Then, one morning, drops of rain began to fall
and the drought was gone.
This vessel is titled “Rain” in honor of the first drop of rain
that fell in answer to the people’s prayer.
