Some sage advice came from a 90+ year old vet on a 10 day, 100 mile ride Greg and he were on. The vet had made the ride sixty years in a row.  The vet told him, "While watering horses when riding in rough terrain at high altitude, limit a horse to nine flicks of the ear to keep your mount sound and sane."
