SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO
SANTA FE, NM: Sorrel Sky Gallery invites art enthusiasts and collectors to experience the
harmonious blend of nature and bronze artistry at the unveiling of their reimagined outdoor sculpture
garden. The gallery will host an elegant Garden Party Gathering on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, from 5-7
PM, featuring the majestic sculptural works of renowned artist Star Liana York alongside the enchanting
fountains of Lisa Gordon.
"We're reviving a format that has resonated deeply with our collectors in the past," says Shanan
Campbell. "This sanctuary of sculptural beauty transforms our balcony patio into an immersive
experience where art and nature converge."
Headlining the exhibition is Star Liana York, recognized as one of Southwest Art Magazine's 30 most
influential artists. Since establishing her artistic practice in the Southwest in 1985, York has created an
impressive body of work reflecting the region's people, animals, environment, and history. Her bronze
sculptures, informed by her daily horseback rides on her ranch near Abiquiu, New Mexico, capture the
spirit and essence of the Southwest with remarkable authenticity.
"There's something magical about experiencing three-dimensional art in an open-air setting," notes York,
whose works are held in prestigious collections, including the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.,
and the Miami Zoo in Florida. "Bronze comes alive differently under natural light, changing throughout
the day as shadows shift and surfaces catch the sun."
The garden will feature York's animal-themed works, showcasing her masterful ability to infuse bronze
with personality and movement. Recently honored with invitations to the 2025 Coors Western Art
Exhibit and Cowgirl Up!, York continues to garner recognition for her exceptional contributions to
contemporary Western art.
Complementing York's monumental pieces are the dynamic sculptural fountains by Lisa Gordon, whose
work unites the sensory experiences of sight, sound, and movement. Gordon, who moved from
Southern California to Santa Fe, draws on her formative experiences of training and caring for horses to
create bronze pieces that blend power with delicate sensitivity.
"Horses are powerful, but that's not what they need in a situation of precarious balance," Gordon
explains her whimsical yet profound creations showing horses balanced on spheres or straddling
pedestals. "They're massive, physical beings, but there's a frailty and delicacy of the legs, much like the
human soul."
Gordon, who received her MFA from California State University, Fullerton, approaches bronze casting
with the same attentive touch she once used to bond with horses. She runs her fingers over warming
wax as it evolves into muscled forms and expressive gestures.
The Garden Party on May 23rd will offer attendees the unique opportunity to meet Star Liana York in
person as she discusses her creative process and inspiration behind the featured works. Master sculptor
Norberto will prepare the garden installation on-site, providing guests an insight into the thoughtful
placement and presentation of outdoor sculpture.
"This isn't simply an exhibition—it’s an environment designed for contemplation and connection," adds
Natalie Woodall, Gallery Manager. "We're creating a space where collectors can envision these
magnificent pieces in their own gardens and outdoor spaces."
Light refreshments will be served, and guests are encouraged to dress for an elegant garden party
atmosphere. The exhibition will remain on view throughout the summer season, with new works
rotating into the sculpture garden.
