Discerning Collectors Invited to Experience the Passion and Innovation of Three Distinctive Artistic Visions

July, 2025

SANTA FE, NM: May 8, 2025 — Sorrel Sky Gallery proudly presents an exclusive showcase featuring three remarkable artists during Santa Fe's Traditional Spanish Market. The exhibition highlights Robert Rivera’s transformative gourd art, Roberto Ugalde’s luminous landscape paintings, and Maria Goler Baca's exquisite jewelry creations, beginning with an intimate artist reception on Friday, July 25, from 5-7:30 pm at the gallery's downtown location, 125 W. Palace Ave. Art enthusiasts will have the additional opportunity to engage directly with all three artists on July 26, from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm, as they share insights into their distinctive creative processes and artistic inspirations. Rivera will also be available on July 27 during the same hours.

The Artistic Excellence of Robert Rivera

For nearly four decades, Robert Rivera has elevated the humble gourd into extraordinary objects of beauty, integrity, and symbolism. His unceasing enthusiasm and passion for exploring innovative techniques infuse each creation with a distinctive dynamic presence. Rivera approaches every gourd as a unique canvas, adorning each piece to reveal its hidden character and essence.

These highly collectible fine art pieces have captured discerning collectors' imaginations throughout the country. Rivera's creative journey takes him across the Southwest in search of perfect gourds, gemstones, sandstone, and other natural elements. Each masterwork is thoughtfully embellished with materials that are, in his words, "from Earth, of Nature," reflecting his deep connection to the landscape that inspires him.

The Luminous Vision of Roberto Ugalde

Born in Rio Blanco, a small village nestled in Mexico's Sierra Madre mountains, Roberto Ugalde creates captivating works that channel the transcendent beauty of aspen trees. Using an innovative technique inspired by Jackson Pollock, Ugalde applies industrial oil-based paint with a palette knife on spinning wood panels, creating mesmerizing interpretations of light filtering through aspen groves.

"Every time I look around me, I see this beautiful world full of colors and forms, and my first impulse is to transform my vision and emotions in a way that connects and reconnects people to Nature," explains Ugalde. His artwork captures trees as they "turn their own bodies into pillars of light," creating an immersive experience that transports viewers directly into the heart of a sunlit forest.

The Artistic Heritage of Maria Goler Baca

Maria Goler Baca's artistic journey represents the continuation of a rich family legacy. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Santa Fe since 1970, Baca was immersed in creative expression from her earliest years, learning antiques, photography, painting, woodworking, and jewelry fabrication within her artistic family. After graduating from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Modern and Classical Languages, her passion for expression led her to develop a distinguished career in jewelry design.

"It gives me great joy to know that little bits of my inspiration will be worn and cherished by many, and hopefully passed on from generation to generation," shares Baca, whose exquisite jewelry pieces reflect her commitment to creating enduring heirlooms. For this special exhibition, Baca will showcase not only her signature jewelry designs but also collaborative works created with her brother, Gustavo Victor Goler, an acclaimed santero and recipient of the Master Award for Lifetime Achievement. This collaboration represents a powerful intersection of traditional New Mexican artistic heritage and contemporary vision.

"Robert, Roberto, and Maria represent the exceptional artistic talent and innovative spirit that define Sorrel Sky Gallery," notes Shanan Campbell, owner of Sorrel Sky Gallery. "As they create new works specifically for this show, anticipation builds amongst collectors and art enthusiasts. Witnessing the meaningful connections formed between these artists and the many collectors who've waited all year for this event is truly inspiring."

This showcase represents a unique opportunity to acquire original works from three of the Southwest's most distinctive artistic voices during the Traditional Spanish Market weekend.
