This is an Andalusian stallion that I photographed in southern France in 2015. He was in a covered arena that was partially underground. I was able to shoot from above the horse, which is how I got this unique perspective. The background was not black, it was medium grey, and looked “muddy.” I carefully darkened the background and boosted the contrast to make this a very graphic image. The shape and curve of the neck reminded me of a nautilus shell, hence the name.
