Patrick Floyd Jarvis Garrett (1850 - 1908) was a famed Western lawman, his notoriety resting on his pursuit, and killing, of New Mexican outlaw, Billy the Kid (July 14, 1881). Interestingly, one of Pat's daughters, Elizabeth (1885 - 1947), was born blind and yet became an accomplished musician, often promoted as the "Songbird of the Southwest". In 1915 her original composition, "O Fair New Mexico,” was adopted as the official state song on New Mexico. She would become a good friend of Helen Keller.
