"Protector" Crazy Dog Society
Acrylic On Canvas, 72" x 48"
“I would hear impressive stories from elders, from the old people, about warriors called ‘Crazy Dogs.’” These specialized warriors dedicated their lives to protecting the tribe. They were the first to go out in battle, not planning on returning, fighting with an intensity that terrified the enemy. White clay covers the face and shoulders of this warrior, as well as the forehead and chest of his horse. As the Crow were (and still are) one of the smaller tribes, the Crazy Dog Society was committed to preserving the tribe as a whole, safeguarding the men, women, children, old ones, and livestock with their very lives.
